Sacred Earth Judaism Series
Adam and Adamah; Humans and Land
with Dr. Nurete Brenner, www.nuretebrenner.com

Weingold  Fall Forum, at B'nai Jeshurun, Beachwood, OH
Thursday evenings for six weeks at 8 pm, beginning October 11th
Drops in are welcome!

What does Judaism tell us about the complex relationship between Earth and Earthlings? Are we really meant to “have dominion over every living thing” (Genesis 1:28). Or are we supposed to be shomrei adamah or guardians of the earth and “cultivate and care for the land” (Genesis 2:15)

  • How do we bring a religious dimension into the discourse on the environment?
  • Can we draw connections between our commitment to Judaism and our commitment to the earth?
  • How do we Jews foster an intimate relationship with nature when we have long considered ourselves the People of the Book not the People of the Land?

We will study the texts, argue their meaning, discuss Jewish eco-philosophy and attempt to find some personal answers. Come join us as we engage in lively discussions around these thorny issue and perhaps some new seeds will sprout from our conversations and we will create together a delightful garden of dialogue.

These evenings of conversation and exploration with Dr. Brenner are free.
