WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
In this summer series we will meet 6 times to discuss texts and practices that connect us to  the magic of Judaism and the tradition of magic in Judaism.

Some of the questions we will be wrestling with:

  • Where do you experience the Divine?
  • What is the relationship between Adam and Adamah (loosely translated as Earth and Earthling or Human and humus)
  • Magic and Spirituality in the Jewish tradition: is astrology, tarot and mysticism Jewish or Avodah Zarah (idol worship?)
  • When Nature Wants us to Conserve: what are the physical, psychological and spiritual cost of wastefulness?
  • The Jewish Medicine Wheel: is Judaism an indigenous religion? Should we consider ourselves Judaeo-Pagans rather than Judaeo-Christians?
  • God, the People and the Book (Torah): Is this the Jewish trinity? But what about the land?
  • Torah Economics: Can we reimagine our entire 21st century economic system by drawing upon ideas from our ancient past? Can the Torah provide a prescription for a more just, more equitable, more secure economic future that would alleviate climate change and social inequality?

Please send any questions to Nurete at: nurete@lakeerieinstitute.org
This event is made possible through the generous support of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland.
